The Novice Chef » Tuesday’s Tip: Wet vs. Dry Measuring Cups

I, myself, have been using the wet measuring cups for all my baking and cooking needs. Since I have been baking more recently, I think purchasing those dry measuring cups would come in handy and provide more accurate measurements!  (Ahem, hint hint :)

Did you ever notice that there was a difference between wet and dry measuring cups? Sure the difference is only slight, but when it comes to sensitive baking recipes that smidge or two of flour can really make a difference.

Check it out for a very interesting read!

she cooks, he eats holiday gift guide: the baker

Did I just confess that I asked my boyfriend for a rolling pin for Christmas? Yes, I did. Do I still want a rolling pin after ogling at all the other products I listed in my holiday gift guide? Yes, I do! That’s how much I want a rolling pin. Haha, I’m a dork.

Aside from cooking, I love to bake! My boyfriend loves cookies and I love cupcakes, so can you imagine all the sweets we love to eat!

Here’s my holiday gift list for a budding baketress…

KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer ($299.95, purchase here):

Bakers’ Silicone Rolling Pin ($29.95, purchase here):

the first inaugural bake

Williams-Sonoma Cake and Brownie Pan

Finally had the chance to use my new Williams-Sonoma bakeware last week! Technically, I think it was more like last last week lol. This is a really long overdue post :)

Anyways, is that not the most beautiful pan you’ve ever seen? I am in love with it! I love how shiny and commercial-looking it is!! It looks like it truly belongs in a kitchen…

I am in love with all things from Williams-Sonoma! This pan did not disappoint one bit and is definitely well worth the money! My previous cheapy one would make clanking noises while it was baking in the oven. And once out of the oven… it morphed into a different shape! Sigh… I guess that’s what you get for buying a cheapy one from a grocery store. There were no problems whatsoever with this gorgeous William-Sonoma pan!! After its first bake, it still retained that gorgeous steel color and shape!! Okay, okay…I think I’m going to stop ranting about how wonderful my new pan is!

For its first bake, we made sugar cookies using premade cookie dough from Fresh and Easy. I know what you’re thinking…why is she baking cookies with a cake pan, this girl must be a babbling ditz? Well, simple really! I still do not have a cookie sheet!! Haha. We figured we would get more use out of the cake pan and if we wanted to use it for cookies…well just line with parchment paper and bake a few at a time, and save the dough for the next bake! It’s a great way to control over-eating of cookies :)

Here’s how I bake my cookies in a cake pan…

STEP 1: line with parchment paper

STEP 2: place cookie dough and bake

STEP 3: voila! easy as cake! hehe no pun intended :)

chocolate thumbprint cookies

chocolate thumbprint cookies

Remember awhile back I posted a list of my current fave sweets that I wanted to try. Banana split bites received the most votes but chocolate thumbprint cookies came in a very close second. And well, this girl cannot resist chocolate and I just had to make!

Let’s just say that these chocolate thumbprint cookies did not disappoint! They were soft, decadent, rich, and chocolatey in every way imaginable. In fact, I don’t even want to call these delicious treats “cookies” because they are so cakey and moist! I want to call them “sprinkled chocolate thumbprint mini cakes”! Ok, ok…it’s just a working title for now.

Anyways, all you’ll need to make these chocolate thumbprint cookies are butter, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, one egg, vanilla, flour, sprinkles, and milk chocolate kisses! Sounds simple enough, right?

Here’s what you’ll need to do to make your own chocolate thumbprint cookies:

First preheat the oven to 375° and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Then gather a large mixing bowl, and…

beat butter on medium-high speed for 30 seconds

Then proceed to…

add sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt
